The MAI designation is earned upon the successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a comprehensive exam, a written demonstration appraisal report, and attaining qualifying experience requirements.

Outside of the appraisal profession, Mr. Thompson has applied a value-minded approach to real property investment and development through Property Catalyst Group. PCG conducts value-adding projects, ground up developments, and strategic real property management assignments. . In addition, Mr. Thompson taught Real Estate Appraisal at Virginia Tech. These extracurricular activities insure TVC clients they are served by a well-rounded real property professional suited for complex appraisal and expert witness assignments.

After an extreme devotion to advanced appraisal practice and education, Joe Thompson, President of Thompson Valuation & Consulting, Inc. became the youngest person to earn the Appraisal Institute’s prestigious MAI designation at age 24. This task was completed at the time of the institute’s strictest designation requirements.
